Departmental Student Representation – What Is It?
The departmental student representation (or student body) actually comprises all students at the department. The active departmental student representation (in which all students can participate) represents the students at a department. It also forms the student representation, which is elected by all students.
The elected representatives of the departmental student representation sit on the Faculty Council and the University Senate. Their role is to represent the concerns and interests of students in university policy.
The students elected to the Faculty Council from all departments also form the Student Representatives’ Council, which in turn appoints representatives to the Student Convention. The Student Convention is the highest student body responsible for shaping the university. Its role is to represent the academic, financial and social interests of students and to resolve cross-departmental issues.
