Practical and educational research
In collaboration with Industry Partners, we design practice-based research that is closely tailored to the needs of the target groups. Project findings can be put into practice straight away.
Teaching and research projects are characterised by the fact that students are given the opportunity to engage in research themselves. In small working groups, they can work independently on practical problems and research questions, or be involved in practice-based research projects led by lecturers.
Examples of past teaching and research projects
As part of the collaborative practical research project, students are conducting a participatory study with primary school children into the support programme for conflict situations offered by the cooperation partner, Seniorpartner in School e.V. (SiS). To this end, during the 2023 summer semester and the 2023/24 winter semester, the students familiarised themselves with participatory research with children and each carried out three child-friendly data collection phases at different primary schools in Munich. In research workshops, they subsequently analysed some of the empirical data collected using qualitative, reconstructive analysis methods and finally compiled the research findings in a research report.

In this educational research project, we are investigating how different life experiences shape the professionalisation processes, self-perception and professional practice of social work students and practitioners. We are currently focusing in particular on voluntary experience, as well as experiences in the context of national, ethnic and cultural identities, and gender, sexual and romantic identities.
The teaching and research project began in 2023. Each semester, we offer two seminars as part of the project.
