FAQ
Every session begins with making contact. This is usually done by email (peer-coaching@hm.edu) or in person on the campus. A mutual appointment is then arranged for a face-to-face meeting. Everyone is different, which is why every session is slightly different. Generally speaking, a coaching session is like a good conversation with someone who is a good listener and knows exactly how to ask the right questions. It helps you gain clarity about your goals and find your own solutions to your challenges – without anyone telling you what to do.
This varies from session to session. Most sessions last between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours. However, they may also be shorter or longer.
Someone who is in the same situation as you – a student. All peer coaches are studying Social Work or a master's degree at Department 11 and have received special training for this role during their studies.
As often as you like! As long as you’re a student, you can contact us at any time and as often as you like, free of charge.
Just send us an email at: peer-coaching@hm.edu
Nothing at all. Plans can change, and sometimes things come up. We’d appreciate it if you could let us know in good time if you can’t make it, and we’ll be happy to arrange a new date with you.
Just pop round and be yourself. It’s best if you know in advance what you’d like to talk about. Think about what specific expectations you have of us and the conversation. This will help us to support you as best we can.
Firstly, it must be said that we cannot provide psychotherapeutic support. However, we are happy to support you with any study-related issues, such as exam anxiety, organisational and motivational difficulties, or even difficulties in your personal life or with others. If you need help with writing an essay, we offer a writing consultancy service. We can also discuss professional matters such as career planning, challenges during internships, or preparing for job interviews and presentations. Personal concerns, such as dealing with insecurity or self-doubt, can also be explored together.
Yes, this offer is free of charge for all students at Hochschule München.
We are bound by a duty of confidentiality. All details of our discussions will remain anonymous.
In peer mentoring, someone with more experience offers advice and shares their knowledge – for example, an older student helps a younger one with questions about their studies or everyday life at university.
Peer coaching isn’t about giving advice, but about working together to find solutions. The focus is on developing and bringing out your own ideas and goals through active listening, targeted questions and reflection
The main difference lies in the peer-to-peer approach. We are students ourselves and are better able to empathise with the problems other students face. Peer coaching takes place entirely on an equal footing – there are no experts here to tell you what to do. Instead, someone supports you by asking questions and offering suggestions so that you can find solutions for yourself.
We currently organise the Co-Working Day once a semester.
Just like the Co-Working Day, we organise the ‘Day for Postponed Chores’ once a semester.
